Aguacatillo is the top of Elida Estate, planted above 2,000 meters where the rows run out into the cloud forest of Volcán Barú National Park. It takes its name from the wild avocado trees that grow there, the ones the quetzals feed on. It is the highest coffee in Panama, and it is where the most expensive coffee ever sold came from: $6,034 per pound at the 2022 Lamastus auction.
In 2025, Lamastus offered Aguacatillo as a study in elevation. We won the Washed lot at 2,100 meters. Dongze won the Natural at 2,050. Fifty vertical meters and one processing decision apart, both finished in the same dark room, where Lamastus dries its best lots without sunlight under controlled humidity.
Ten kilos of each was available. They were split among a handful of buyers worldwide. This is the only way to taste them next to each other.
